CANBERRA BLUES & ROOTS AWARDS
In order to provide recognition and incentive to Australian blues & roots music performers, engineers and arrangers, the Canberra Country Blues & Roots Festival organises the annual Canberra Blues & Roots Awards. Covering both recorded songs, live performances and songwriting these awards are very much about the music that are the heart of Blues & Roots.
The Canberra Blues & Roots Awards provide recognition and incentives to Blues & Roots Music performers, engineers and arrangers, and recognises their achievements on both a national and regional basis. It is unique, in that both regional contestants and national contestants compete against each other in the one competition, but recognition of local achievements is given in addition to any national or international achievements.
Anyone within Australia is eligible to win the national level of an award, whilst non-Australian citizens elsewhere are eligible for the international class awards. Anyone within the Canberra Region is eligible to win the regional level of an award. Where an award is won by someone outside the Canberra Region, a Regional Winner will also be named, provided someone from within the Canberra Region has entered that category.
The Canberra Region is defined as; the Australian Capital Territory and surrounding region. The surrounding region is defined geographically as; the Illawarra and NSW South Coast, NSW Southern Highlands, NSW South West Slopes, Snowy Mountains and Riverina regions consisting of the local government areas of; Albury, Bega Valley, Berrigan, Bland, Bombala, Boorowa, Carrathool, Conargo, Coolamon, Cooma-Monaro, Cootamundra, Corowa, Cowra, Deniliquin, Eurobodalla, Goulburn-Mulwaree, Greater Hume Shire, Griffith, Gundagai, Harden, Hay.
