NATIONAL COUNTRY DANCE
The following information refers to previous Festival activities.
We will update this webpage when 2012 arrangements are confirmed
One of the highlights of the 3 day Canberra Country Music Festival is the National Country Dance held on the Saturday night. The location of this special event is the True Blue Stage within the Festival site at Exhibition Park. Coordinated by the Monaro Folk Society and featuring the period costume dressed Monaro Colonial Dancers, presentational cloggers, Square Dancing and plenty of Linedancing - this is a sight to behold.
Over a 4 hour period, with a mixture of live music from the renown Bush Capital Band and well known country music dance songs, there is an invitation for all present to join in most of the time, with sessions separated by presentations of the different country dance styles. Something for everyone during this evening and with a room capacity of 600 dancing and light supper provided, it is best to get in early to reserve a place, with preference given to dance and touring clubs/groups.
Bush dancing has been an Australian tradition for over 200 years, originating from a mix of Irish, Scottish and English folk dances. The monthly or annual bush dance is still a feature of many regional communities and a lot of fun. Many reel and jig type dances are called by band leaders whilst more formal colonial forms are very elegant and a great spectacle.
